Fermentation Research & Development Intern

Green Plains Inc. Summary: The Fermentation Research and Development (R&D) Intern is a temporary/seasonal internship intended to provide the student with on-the-job experience pertaining to their degree. As the Fermentation R&D Intern you will be conducting benchtop experiments within the lab environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct benchtop experiments to evaluate fermentation process parameters on a variety of microbial strains
  • Prepare samples for testing using a variety of complex and standard lab equipment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems as they arise in the operation of bioreactors and lab equipment
  • Maintain a high functioning and efficient lab space
  • Prepare consistent batches of agar and liquid media using aseptic technique

Qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled at a post-secondary institution, pursuing a degree related to biological science (Biology, Microbiology, Biological Engineering etc.)
  • Junior standing and above with GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Requires ability to climb ladders, bend, twist and reach, or stand for long periods of time

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job includes but is not limited to: frequent sitting, computer use, and telephone use.
  • Noise level is typically quiet to moderate.
