Agriculture Teacher

Orion High School, located in Orion, IL is seeking an Agricultural Education Teacher/FFA Advisor for August of 2022.  The Orion School District provides a mentoring program for new teachers and additional support is available for mid-year hires.
 
The Orion Ag Department has an Ag Mechanics shop, full greenhouse, Torchmate, welding lab and a 17-acre FFA test plot. This plot provides $8000 of financial support to the FFA program on a yearly basis. Current courses to be taught include (flexible based on candidate expertise) Environmental Science, Ag Mechanics, Intro to Ag, Agronomy, Vet Science, Ag Business, and Diversified Occupations (which is an on the job experience course). OHS is 1 to 1 with Chromebooks and the Agriculture Department utilizes a touch screen Promethean board, an Ag Office Space, and an FFA Officer conference room/lab. The Agriculture Shop received upgrades over the summer and there have been initial talks of building a new vocational building. Agriculture is extremely important to the community due to our proximity to John Deere World Headquarters and other ag industries. Additionally, there is a very supportive alumni group.  

Candidates must have an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or Career and Technical Education Educator License with Stipulations (ELS). Contract length is 12 months and the school district participates in the Three Circle FFA and SAE grant. 

Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will implement, design, and teach the curriculum for the classes listed above. Additionally as the FFA sponsor the successful candidate will manage all aspects related to FFA events and offerings.
