City of Saint Paul Equity VISTA

Serve your community through a year of service with the City of Saint Paul Equity Change Team!

In order to build a Saint Paul For All, we must integrate equity into everything we do. At the City of Saint Paul, we’ve developed an internal framework, the City-wide Equity Change Team, to lead the work to tackle racial disparities in our City. The City-wide Equity Change Team is a network of Department Change Teams. Every department is responsible for developing an annual Equity Work Plan to 1.) Build a Workforce that Reflects our City, 2.) Diversify our Spend, and 3.) Co-Create with our Community. The Equity Change Team Leading with race provides us an opportunity to introduce a framework that can be applied to other areas of marginalization. We aim to eliminate structural inequities and ensure timely and relevant access to services, resources, support, and opportunity to every person in Saint Paul.

Member Duties:
  • Supporting the city-wide equity change team framework
  • Training staff to use newly launched racial equity toolkit
  • Coordinating the City’s celebration of various cultural events throughout story gathering and storytelling to better inform internal and external stakeholders about the City’s equity work that goes beyond the current numerical dashboard and tells individuals’ stories. You will promote a culture of storytelling that goes beyond numerical data as valuable for equity work and other work within the City government through sharing research around the effectiveness of storytelling.
  • Develop Training and Development for City Employees
  • Create an employee survey to determine what training and development employees are looking for around equity.
  • Pilot training activity/ies around one or more of the training priorities (IE Book clubs, affinity groups, guest speakers, etc) based on survey findings -Gather evaluations from staff who participated in pilot program to improve for future
