Position: SILT Internship
Reporting to the SILT Farm Specialist, the primary role of the intern will be to aid the Farm Specialist with landowner outreach, networking, and consultation. S/he/they will come to the job with basic sustainable agriculture and communications experience and will gain further education and training while on the job. This position is focused in Eastern Iowa with the opportunity to work remotely. The position will require intermittent travel across the state of Iowa along with work in an outdoor setting. 

Responsibilities:

Landowner Communications and Outreach: (35%)
·      Assist the Farm Specialist with developing creative ways to reach new landowners interested in protecting their land with SILT.
·      Maintain records and documentation of ongoing landowner communications.
·      Work with SILT’s marketing team to reach new constituents across the state.
·      Use phone/email/mail/text to build relationships with landowners and other SILT members.
·      Assist the SILT team with events and field days.

Farm Specialist Technical Assistance: (30%)
·      Accompany the FS during land consultations and generate notes, photos, and communications during the visit.
·      Assist the FS with providing consultation to Iowa landowners about sustainable food farming and conservation.

Professional Development: (20%)
·      Attend events, webinars, and trainings that help build knowledge pertaining to sustainable agriculture and conservation.
·      Create monthly write ups about the internship and work with SILT staff to build the internship position. 

Ongoing SILT Communications: (15%)
·      Attend weekly staff meetings with the SILT team via Zoom.
·      Communicate with SILT staff via email, text, and phone.
·      Meet with the Farm Specialist at the West Branch office twice per month.
·      Tracking of hours and work throughout the week.
 
Required Qualifications:
·      Strong interpersonal communication skills.
·      Commitment to participating as a team member of a small organization.
·      Ability to work remotely using virtual meeting software such as Zoom and Google Meet.
·      Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
·      Ability to work in an outdoor setting with the capability of traversing rugged terrain.
·      Passion for SILT’s mission.

Ideal candidates will:
·      Have knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices in the Midwest.
·      Be located in Eastern Iowa.
·      Have a sense of what “sustainable” means and how to achieve it.
·      Be self-motivated and organized, able to meet and exceed expectations on time, whether working from home or in an office setting.
·      Have strong written and verbal skills, an ability for talking to people and developing lasting relationships.
·      Have an Iowa Driver’s License.
