Location

 

The FMC Midwest Field Station is located 80 miles west of Chicago in Rochelle, Illinois. Located in the deep, black, Mollisol soil belt of northern Illinois, the farm consists of 125 acres devoted to the evaluation of materials for use as corn and soybean herbicides and fungicides, soil and foliar insecticides and biologicals. The farm features a complete set of modern farm and experimental equipment and facilities.

 

Program

 

FMC Agricultural Solutions internship positions at the Rochelle, Illinois Field Station are available to students who have completed at least their freshman year of college in agriculture or any related discipline and have a practical knowledge of farm operations. Interns are employed to assist in the implementation and summarization of the field testing program at the research station.

Students were selected on the basis of personal interviews by FMC Representatives. Further information can also be received by calling the field station at (815) 562-7570.

 

Employment and Training Schedule

 

Employment is available mid-May (after final exams are completed) through late August. The field station intern will work closely with the Field Station Site and Operations Managers to implement the field evaluation program.

Interns are required to attend a training session in mid- March at the field station and to procure a valid pesticide applicator’s license.

Interns are paid at an hourly rate. Little to no offsite travel is required.

No housing is provided. Month to month housing is readily available in the Rochelle area.

 

Responsibilities

 

Field Station Interns will . . .

1. Assist in the planning and implementation of field station evaluation program including machinery and sprayer operation, residue sample collection, and site maintenance.

2. Assist in the summarization of the results from the field trials utilizing Agfile-Field Pro computer systems.

3. Develop an understanding of the agricultural products industry as it relates to early synthesis, genetic manipulation and evaluation of materials and subsequent registration requirements.

4. Be willing to work outside in the field with a team of peers to reach common goals and objectives.
