Summary

The Michiana Area Council of Governments is seeking an innovative and motivated professional to fill a full-time Transportation Analyst position. The position performs a variety of tasks and activities that support the implementation of transportation planning and projects in the MACOG region. Particular focus on Travel Demand Modeling, traffic studies, and other long-range planning activities. 

Duties

Primary responsibilities include: 
  • Responsible for maintenance and development of the Travel Demand Forecast Model. 
  • Apply transportation methods, planning principles, and new evaluations and analyses to support the planning, design and implementation of transportation projects.
  • Utilizes various types of software for qualitative and quantitative analysis and forecasts traffic congestion, traffic patterns, accessibility, and other transportation topics.
  • Project-level alternatives analysis; traffic operations analysis and simulations.
  • Engages and coordinates with local, state and federal stakeholders on Congestion Management Process, Air Quality Conformity, and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
  • Develop, manage and implement databases and related activities. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain GIS databases and layers using ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Design and execute effective dashboards, reports, and other interactive data visualizations that will lead to actionable insights.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning or Modeling, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field. 
  • Experience performing statistical analysis related to transportation planning preferred.
  • Experience with programming in languages such as Python, Java, R, and SQL.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, including writing queries that pull, combine, and summarize data.
  • The candidate must have a high level of motivation and self-direction, ability to set goals and prioritize completing tasks. 
  • Ability to work independently and to partner effectively with colleagues. 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills. 
  • Candidates should be familiar with ArcGIS. Additional familiarity with Tableau Software is a plus.
