2022 Summer Intern - Credit Risk Management

Responsibilities

The Risk Analytics & Infrastructure team is the center of Excellence (CoE) for data, analytical reporting and modeling within CIBC US. The team’s leadership consists of experts with leading industry practice / consulting background. The team employs advanced data and analytics techniques including cloud based AI, machine learning and natural language processing methods. Each of the team members plays an important part in accomplishing our work, building our culture and making an impact.
 
We focus on driving analytics as the strategic advantage for the bank by building out a strong data foundation and cloud-based infrastructure to facilitate advanced analytics applications for the Bank. The team covers all analytics areas of the bank starting with risk management applications, and is committed to helping overcome complex challenges across lines of business while collaborating with Finance, Technology, Operations, etc. It enables the predictive analytics to provide insights to risk management functions, portfolio management and business strategic planning.
 
We are seeking problem solvers who have a passion for data, coding, modeling, out-of-box thinking and a relentless focus on execution and delivery. You will be most successful with a healthy combination of both technical skills and business acumen. Working with the team, you will generate insights by conducting extensive review and development of data, infrastructure, business intelligence and advanced analytics to solve real world problems in the areas such as risk management, loss forecasting, stress testing, adjudications, pricing, early warning, portfolio management and strategy. In the process, you will develop a deeper understanding of risk analytics, banking operations, further strengthen your analytical, leadership and presentation skills and gain exposure to a wide variety of functional teams within CIBC.
  • Gain industry and organizational knowledge through daily business interactions and job assignments
  • Gain exposure to risk management in banking
  • Develop business, financial and analytical skills needed for a career in bank risk data and analytics
  • Provide analytics and project support to the bank’s Risk Analytics and Infrastructure group, including performing hands-on tasks using analytical and statistical tools such as Excel, Python

Qualifications


  • Strong desire to gain further understanding of the commercial banking business and related data and analytical needs
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data and model results
  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and aptitude to work on a team
  • Familiarity with Office software tools, analytics and data management platforms and frameworks preferred
