Wire/Copy Editor

The Villages Daily Sun, America's fastest growing daily newspaper, is seeking a wire and local copy editor who shares our passion for community journalism.
Candidates must possess strong news judgment and familiarity with a wide variety of subject matter. Advanced communication skills and the ability to make sound decisions under deadline pressure are a must. Mastery of grammar, spelling and Associated Press style are required, as is a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. A working knowledge of InDesign is also required. The work hours for the job are 3 p.m.-midnight.
What you need to know about us: The Daily Sun is defying national trends of declining circulation numbers and downsizing staff. We’re a community-first newsroom, not a digital-first newsroom. This means that we place high value on hyper-local content that is reported and edited at the local level -not outsourced - for a rapidly expanding print product. This is a terrific opportunity to focus on journalistic quality without the distraction of an additional digital workflow.
The Daily Sun is part of a media group that also produces a daily television newscast, operates an FM radio station and produces a monthly lifestyles magazine and a portfolio of other niche products.
We’re a 90-mile drive to the beach, Orlando’s theme parks and the historic neighborhoods of Gainesville and St. Augustine. We offer competitive pay, excellent benefits and access to a highly regarded charter school system in one of the state's most idyllic settings.
