Temporary Early Childhood Special Education Preschool Teacher

Northwood Preschool is seeking a Temporary Early Childhood Special Education Teacher to support an increase of enrollment for the spring of 2022.

Summary
Under the general supervision of the Northwood Principal, the preschool teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Plans daily lessons and activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children and are aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve learning.
  • Participates in recruiting and enrolling students into our program.
  • Participates and engages in professional learning, including CPR and first aid.
  • Monitors student learning on a daily basis and use multiple data points to guide instruction.
  • Engages children in activities and play that stimulates their environment.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs.
  • Fulfills all the responsibilities of the IEP: timely and current progress monitoring, uses progress monitoring to guide instruction, etc.
  • Utilizes developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times.
  • Assists children with activities of daily life (restroom use, handwashing, etc.)
  • Appropriately supervises children while keeping them safe at all times.
  • Establishes a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service.
  • Creates and maintains an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children.
  • Supervises Educational Assistants in the classroom to ensure they are following program policy and expectations.
  • Trains any Educational Assistants in the classroom and directs them as to what duties need to be carried out throughout the day.
  • Conducts child assessments and facilitates parent-teacher conferences.
  • Attends and engages in occasional parent participation events or other events that may be on nights and/or weekends.
  • Improves Iowa Early Learning Standards Implementation in all subject areas.
  • Enhances 21st Century Skills through modeling applicable and authentic skills.
  • Supports the Implementation of MTSS to meet the needs of all students.
  • Supports the Implementation of PBIS to meet the needs of all students.
  • Monitors GOLD and IGDIs assessment data to plan program improvements.
  • Supports grade level planning to evaluate student learning and make teaching and learning adjustments based on data.
  • Follows and abides by District policies.
  • Creates a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment for all students and staff.
  • Attends work on a consistent and punctual basis.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Valid teaching license with certification in Early Childhood Education and Special Education endorsement required.
  • Ability to pass a background check required
The successful candidate will exhibit: 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. throughout the shift.
  • Ability to bend, lift, sit on the floor, run short distances, and assist physically active students.
  • A basic understanding of the needs of three and four-year-old children and the ability to relate to children with different academic and behavioral needs.
  • Professional communications skills.
  • Patience and compassion and maintain a caring and helpful relationship with children.
  • Initiative and the insight to anticipate problem situations and respond accordingly.
