Commercial Lines Emerging (Innovation) Capabilities Intern

Our Emerging Capabilities Team


We work across the organization and with external partners to drive innovative capabilities across the value chain within the Commercial Lines and Agribusiness units at Nationwide. Along with exploring and implementing transformational solutions, we also are responsible for analyzing and disseminating commercial business industry and market intelligence to help inform strategic decision making at various levels of the commercial lines and agribusiness organizations. This is a great launching point at Nationwide because of the diversity of experience you gain, and the exposure provided to future forward technologies and general industry awareness as a whole. Every day creates new opportunities and no two days are the same.

We’re looking for Commercial Lines Emerging Capabilities Interns, location variable.




Job Summary

A day in the life of a Personal Lines Product Intern might include:
·      Analyzing large data sets to make or influence strategic business decisions with the guidance of Product Managers
·      Completing tasks involving data science, business reports, and ad hoc analysis
·      Track competitor rate changes and market share
·      Demonstrating willingness to be engaged and try new things
·      Participating in department and company meetings
·      Completing training and developing proficiency on the tools to complete analysis on Personal Lines Products
·      Answering questions about products, coverages or discounts from agents and others associated with Nationwide
·      Completing a project with other interns at Nationwide for presentation to senior leadership at the end of the summer
·      Performing other duties as assigned




About You

A successful Commercial Lines EmCap Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
●     Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, Finance, Statistics, Math, Insurance, Marketing, MIS, Business Management or a related field of study
●     Completion of sophomore or junior year is preferred
●     Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience
●     3.0 GPA or higher is desired

Skills/Competencies
●     Exposure to insurance and risk management concepts
●     Problem solving and analytical skills, including ability to recognize problems, determine appropriate actions, implement solutions and use judgement when appropriate
●     Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts
●     Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment
●     Natural curiosity to explore and question
●     Ability to conduct research and create informative and analytical output as a result
●     Basic understanding of product and project management methods and objectives
●     Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and PowerPoint; SQL or Tableau is nice to have but not required
●     Passion to learn more about innovation, telematics, IoT and the future of insurance
