Wildlife Care and Management Internship (Carnivores) – Minnesota
The Wildlife Science Center (WSC) is a nationally recognized education and research facility that is home to birds of prey, critically endangered red, Mexican gray, and gray wolves, bears, cougars, foxes, bobcats, raccoons, skunks, and lynx. WSC is a unique wolf center that:
1) Provides education programs to 20,000 – 25,000 people annually.
2) Conducts and assists in research involving wolf physiology, behavior, reproduction, and genetics.
3) Trains both student and professional biologists alike through wildlife handling courses.
4) Assists with the conservation of critically endangered red and Mexican gray wolves.
Animal care interns will gain valuable wildlife handling experience while observing and/or participating in cutting-edge research and taking advantage of critical networking opportunities with prominent wildlife professionals.
Primary Internship Responsibilities:
• Assist staff with daily animal maintenance chores (i.e. feed, water, clean enclosures, process road-kill deer, etc.)
• Maintain daily records.
• Assist with the construction of any new enclosures or other projects.
• Assist with ongoing research and animal immobilizations.
• Assist with maintenance and security of facility and grounds.
• Assist with other various duties as needed.
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate, preferably interested in wildlife and/or natural resources education
• Must be at least 18 years old and able to sign a liability waiver
• Ability to work outside in various weather conditions (i.e. 90% outside, inclement weather)
• Ability to lift 50-100 lbs
• Ability to accommodate occasional long and unusual work hours (i.e. overnights, weekends, etc.)
• Willingness to handle carcasses and tolerate other unusual conditions
• Ability to work with others and independently
• Must be able to take and follow directions, completing appointed tasks in a timely manner
• Must be punctual and have regular attendance.
• Possess a willingness to learn
• 1st aid and CPR recommended (WSC will provide training, as needed.)
• Highly motivated to support the Wildlife Science Center

Start dates for winter interns are negotiable throughout December and early January. Limited housing is available. All internships are unpaid, 12 to 16 weeks in length, and 40+ hours per week.
