911 Telecommunicator – Full Time
Beginning Salary: $19.7354/hour
Position Schedule: Days and hours may vary
 
McLean County 911 Communications Center, Bloomington, Illinois is seeking applications for the position of 911 Telecommunicator. This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week. Shift work is required and includes holidays and weekends. This position has a starting pay of $19.73/hour with a shift differential for 2nd & 3rd shifts.


Position Summary:

Operate communication equipment to receive incoming calls for assistance. Dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment to the scene of emergency and non-emergency situations by performing the following duties; receive complaints from public concerning police, fire and medical emergencies and non-emergency requests via telephone (911 and seven digit lines), radio and other communications devices; insure that proper personnel and equipment are sent in response to a call for assistance or service; receive and disseminate all required and needed information between the caller, the field units and other agencies in order to provide prompt and appropriate assistance as required and/or requested.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide assistance to citizens and agencies consistent with the general good.
• Follow policies, procedures, directives and orders.
• Handle multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
• Operate telephone, radio equipment & various computer systems.
• Interact with the public & user agencies
• Provide pre-arrival medical instructions, utilizing Emergency Medical Dispatch.
• Maintain activity logs, codes, warrants & other files for entry into the appropriate systems.
• Utilize all resources necessary to discharge the duties & responsibilities of the agency.
• Assist in the training of newly hired personnel.
• All other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned.


Required Qualifications:

• Experience is preferred, but not required
• High school diploma or GED
• 40 wpm typing
• Pass a background investigation
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License
• CPR/First Aid Certification *
• Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification *
• Emergency Fire Dispatch Certification*
• LEADS Certification *
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports and correspondence
• Ability to effectively receive, present and respond to information and questions from supervisors, public safety agencies, other governmental agencies, and the general public
• Ability to perform common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
• Ability to handle multiple, complex tasks and complete them in a timely and accurate manner
