Intern -Security (Threat Intelligence) - Summer 2022- CO or WFH (261939)

The Main Responsibilities


As a Security Intern in our Global Network Operations organization, you will work collaboratively with our team to proactively look for threats and intercept them. Tasks during the 10 weeks will include threat-hunting. Security interns will have the potential to learn about cyber incidences, malware technology, point operating systems, and many other security measures. This will give interns the opportunity to think like a hacker in order to better protect Lumen from attacks.

-Hunt for known IOCs on Lumen infrastructure 
-Research active threats in the wild and then hunt for indicators on Lumen's network 
-Work with CIRT on current threats to Lumen infrastructure 
-Work with Lumen Pen-testers to identify current attacker TTPs that may be seen within Lumen 
-Create reports on findings from all threat hunting 
-Create alerts for CIRT to respond to for active threat techniques 


What We Look For in a Candidate


Education Requirements 
o   Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior or master’s level education status at the start of the internship, graduating August 2022 – May 2023.
o   Major/Degree: In pursuit of degree in Data Science, Computer Science, MIS, Cybersecurity, and other related fields

Proficiency and understanding of; 
o   Windows systems 
o   Corporate Sized Networks
o   Malware Technology
o   Windows end point operating systems 
o   Basic trouble shooting computer systems
o   Security principles and best practices 
o   Log review experience is a plus

Professional Attributes
o   Strong drive for results and taking initiative
o   Ability to be inquisitive, critical thinking, and adaptable- 
o   Ability to collaborate and have agility while making effective decisions
o   Strong written and verbal communication skills
o   Ability to interact with business partners and drive the conversation.

Work Setting
o   Ideally the position will be in one of the following offices: Broomfield -CO, or Remote- Work From Home
o   Intern must be able to work 30-40 hours be week during the 10-week program (June – August)
o   Intern must have reliable transportation to/from work location (Lumen does not provide transportation to/from Lumen office locations)
