Physical Education (4th-6th)/Health Teacher

Prior experience a plus! Years of service in a public school will be included when determining salary.

TITLE: Physical Education (4th-6th Grade) and Health Teacher 

QUALIFICATIONS: 
  1. Valid and appropriate Illinois licensure.
  2. Physical Education and Middle School Health endorsement required.
  3. Complete required professional development to retain certification.
  4. Successful completion of fingerprint based criminal background check (IL State Police and FBI), sex offender and violent youth offender screening, and employment physical.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Assistant Principal

JOB GOAL (PE):   To develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards, physical fitness, hygiene, and good health.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (PE):
  1. Develops and administers Physical Education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  2. Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in, physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports using the Illinois Learning Standards for Physical Development and Health.
  3. Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
  4. Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  5. Knowledge of physiology, health and nutrition, biology and biological functions, anatomy, hygiene, exercise, and the best ways to promote physical and mental well-being.
  6. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  7. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  8. Assists in coordinating extracurricular activities, including student performances, assemblies, and athletic events.
  9. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  10. Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  11. Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within physical education and grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  12. Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  13. Inspects equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order.
  14. Utilizes current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
  15. Utilizes knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  16. Applies knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
  17. Obtains knowledge of computer network system and software applications as needed.
  18. Organizes and coordinates work.
  19. Communicates effectively with students and parents.
  20. Engages in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  21. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  22. Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
  23. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal/assistant principal and other district office administrators as designated by the superintendent.
  24. Adheres to a professional code of ethics which includes confidentiality of school related matters and loyalty to the school district.

  4. Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  5. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  6. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  7. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  8. Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with the school standards and school district discipline policies.
  9. Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within physical education and grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  180 days. Salary and benefits per the Collective Bargaining Agreement
