Junior Engineer/Geoscientist (All Locations)

The Role

BGC is seeking junior engineers and geoscientists with a passion for applied earth sciences and a dedication to lifelong learning in a technically challenging and inspiring team environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, relevant work experience and a desire to travel and work in diverse and remote conditions. 
 
BGC provides an opportunity to develop an exciting career that builds on your fundamental skills gained during university. Junior engineers and geoscientists at BGC can expect a mix of field and office work. Typical field work includes site investigations (including drilling and downhole testing, test pit logging, field mapping, geophysical surveys, instrumentation installation, river/stream inspection, and geohazard assessment) and construction monitoring. Typical office work includes reporting and interpretation of field data, engineering or geoscience analysis including material and site characterization, interpretation of instrumentation data, and contribution to designs.  

This role can be based in any of our Canadian offices, as well as Golden, CO and Santiago, Chile. Fieldwork is performed on projects situated throughout North America and the world.

Required Education, Experience & Competencies

  • Enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a relevant undergraduate degree in Civil (Geotechnical/Hydrotechnical/General) or Geological Engineering, Geoscience, Geology, Geophysics or a related field
  • 0-5 years of experience
  • Excellent written, presentation and oral communications
  • MS Office skills
  • A second language is an asset
  • A post-graduate degree is an asset

Position Requirements

Fieldwork
Engineering and Geoscience staff at BGC conduct field work at a variety of project locations in a range of field environments. Field work provides the opportunity to get outdoors, meet new people, travel to new places and be active at work. Field work can be both mentally and physically demanding, Junior Engineering and Geoscience staff typically spend ~25 to 50% of their time in the field, for up to 3 weeks at a time with breaks in between. Standard field days are 12 hours in length.

Drug & Alcohol Testing
To ensure we meet our client’s compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position. The policy states that an employee may be required to take a drug and alcohol test prior to engaging in field work. This testing could be requested within an employee’s first week or in the future, as required. It is important to note that some clients also require random drug and alcohol testing and testing in the event of a health and safety accident or incident.

Driver’s License and Passport
In order to perform this role, BGC requires that you have a passport, in the event you are required to travel for work and a valid driver's license, in the event you will be required to drive a vehicle for work. As part of our background screening, BGC will require you to submit a current driver’s abstract upon hire.
