Agronomy Location Manager

Position Summary:
Manage the operational activities of the Agronomy location. Make value added recommendations to growers that will result in outstanding customer service and crop yield for growers, while improving the cooperative’s market share and efficiency, and helping to achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Operations
  • Manage a full-service agronomy operation, including dry and liquid fertilizer, seed, seed treatment, crop protection products, and custom application.
  • Hire, lead, and develop both full-time and part-time assigned employees required to operate the facilities.
  • Direct staffing, safety training, and performance evaluations to develop and control operations.
  • Train employees to meet state, federal, and company regulatory and safety criteria.
  • Develop a plan that ensures that all products handled, and services rendered, are billed, and accounted for.
  • Continually upgrade and demonstrate knowledge of the job.
  • Promotes United Cooperative by maintaining a positive image and attitude.
  • Always friendly, courteous, and helpful.
  • Maintains clean, neat appearance.
  • Uses time and resources efficiently.
Sales/Marketing
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key industry and strategic community partners.
  • Responsible for sales and inventories on fertilizer, ag chemicals, and seed.
  • Effectively communicate with patrons, distributors, and company staff.
  • Review market analyses to determine customer needs and volume potential.
  • Recognize the changing environment while identifying customer needs and direct those resources to the appropriate people to meet those needs.
  • Provide analysis for product sales and forecasts.
  • Prepare sales reports showing sales volume and potential sales.
  • Assist in producer meetings as needed.
Safety and Environmental Protection
  • Abide by United Cooperative’s safety and environmental policies and current industry standards.
  • Communicate effectively with VP Agronomy Operations and VP Seed & Agronomy Sales on employee and environmental issues.
  • Monitor employees and working conditions to ensure safe work practices.
General Duties
  • Enforce United Cooperative’s credit policy.
  • Maintain open communication with employees, VP Agronomy Operations and VP Seed & Agronomy Sales.
  • Establish personal performance goals and work toward these goals.
  • Upgrade training by learning on the job, attending schools or seminars, and/or reading product and industry information as requested by Executive Leadership.
  • Perform duties as requested by VP Agronomy Operations and VP Seed & Agronomy Sales.
  • Abide by policies set forth in the employee handbook.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; one- or two-years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
