SCA NH Environmental Education Coordinator

The Student Conservation Association (SCA), a national force for youth conservation volunteers, has an exciting opportunity in our Program Department. America's #1 youth conservation service organization seeks an SCA NH Environmental Education Coordinator in our Allenstown, NH location.
 
Position Summary
The Student Conservation Association provides an array of corps and crews programming across the country. Education Coordinators help with the administrative and logistical tasks of executing the environmental and outdoor education curriculum and activities program in their corresponding cities/area. The Education Coordinator position is responsible for ensuring administrative task lists associated with the safe complete and accurate execution of SCAs various Residential programs in their portfolio are completed in a timely manner. This person helps ensures Team Members are equipped for the program delivery work scheduled, comply with curriculum and AmeriCorps mandates, safety controls, logistical service/program delivery needs, and mandatory internal record-keeping and administrative requirements. This position reports to the Program Manager, Residential. This is a seasonal position with potential for fulltime employment, with the SCA NH Conservation Corps, contingent on funding.
 
New Hampshire Conservation Corps:
The SCA New Hampshire Conservation Corps program is a partnership between the Student Conservation Association, The New Hampshire Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, and AmeriCorps. Since 1994, the program has provided over one million hours of service to the lands and people of New Hampshire. Each year our member volunteers contribute thousands of service hours, providing environmental education programming to the states residents and visitors, and completing conservation service projects that improve and protect the states cultural, recreational, and natural resources.

The mission of SCA New Hampshire AmeriCorps program is to serve the communities and lands of New Hampshire while building the members leadership and technical skills in the conservation eld. In the tradition of the Civilian Conservation Corps, SCA NH Corps members perform direct hands-on service while developing their ethic of service and citizenship. These highly motivated young adults enhance and protect natural areas through environmental education, interpretive ranger programs, and conservation and recreation stewardship projects across the state.

Roles and Responsibilities

External Engagement:
  • Represent Residential Program at SCA and other events;
  • Assist Program Manager, Residential in building relationships with community organizations and land partners on a local level.

Recruiting & Onboarding:
  • Assist with orientation of team members to prepare them for service activities;
  • Responsible for ensuring all teams are readily equipped with or have access to necessary supplies and other logistical requirements in accordance with internal practices;
  • Responsible for assisting HR as requested with the in-person onboarding requirements of team members;
  • Act as hiring manager to liaise with HR and Recruitment Team representatives to source new members as needed.

Program Planning & Delivery:
  • Ensure that site and partner sites are meeting program goals and that the service members will be doing is in line with AmeriCorps protocols and the programs defined performance measures;
  • Help monitor members educational program delivery to ensure compliance with administrative, AmeriCorps, and curriculum checklists;
  • Plan and organize project logistics prior to program;
  • Program delivery will be a mix of in person and virtual for 2022;
  • Spring and Fall will consist of outreach programs with schools and other local organizations throughout NH
  • Summer will include programs for park patrons at sites across NH
  • Work with Program Manager, Residential to review execution plan and ensure necessary preparations and monitoring plans are completed;
  • Ensures timesheets are completed weekly by all program participants, program reports/summaries are submitted timely, receipts are properly submitted, coded and approved, and that all other SCA administrative requirements are met by team members;
  • Assist Program Manager, Residential with program facilities tasks as needed
  • Report, track and respond to incidents in accordance with SCA policies and procedures

Program Improvements:
  • Share on-the-ground learnings with Program Manager, Residential.

Internal SCA Engagement:
  • Liaise with HR and Recruitment teams representatives for crew member and member recruiting and onboarding processes;
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of internal policies and procedures and AmeriCorps requirements, including weekly time-keeping logs, narrative reporting for funders, and other SCA mandates and ensuring timely and accurate compliance.

Alumni Engagement:
  • Build and maintain relationships with Residential Program alumni as directed.

Supplemental Functions:
  • Occasionally acting as on-call staff;
  • Approximately 15-20% of time spent traveling locally for programmatic purposes.
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Project management experience in a collaborative environment
  • Strong communication skills when working with various external and internal partners
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience working with and supervising young adults from racially and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds
  • Enjoy working with young people in a fluid, dynamic organization
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR certifications or ability to obtain before start date
  • Experience working in environmental education and strong outdoor skills
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and demonstrate a high level of customer/client service and response
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to pass state and federal background checks
 
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree in science, environmental education, education, or related field
  • 2-5 years experience working in a related field
  • Experience with service learning methodologies
  • Proven ability to multi-task and troubleshoot in a fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with delivering school and park based programs
  • Experience with online education platforms, learning management software, and the creation and delivery of online educational materials is a plus

Travel Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets SCA standards
  • Excellent driving record and ability to drive in a variety of conditions including city driving and/or use of four-wheel drive as well as standard transmission as needed
  • The ability to travel for extended periods of time outside and over a variety of terrain
  • Occasional camping will be necessary when doing programmatic evaluations for members
