Spring Communications Intern

Communications Internship Job Description
Location: Iowa State Capitol - Des Moines, Iowa

The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office is offering a paid, in-person, undergraduate internship for the Spring 2021 Semester.

The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office has been a gatekeeper to historical traditions since statehood in 1846. Over the past 170+ years, the office’s duties have evolved and today encompass business services and oversees elections across the State of Iowa.

The Communications Intern is responsible for overseeing the Honor a Veteran and Vote social media channels and administrative work associated with the program. Our interns embellish their writing skills, polish their speaking skills, and become prepared for the real-world experience after college. The job duties include, but are not limited to:
·      Graphic Design with Canva or Other Graphic Design Software
·      Public Speaking
·      Photography
·      Managing the Honor a Veteran Facebook page

Additional responsibilities include assisting the Communications team with special projects such as the Carrie Chapman Catt Award or the Iowa Youth Straw Poll.

The ideal candidate would be available 20 hours per week w/strong written and verbal skills.
Experience with Canva is a plus. This is a paid position, with the opportunity for college credit, if desired – depending on the requirements of your college or university.
