Summer Communications Internship

Communications Internship Job Description
Location: Iowa State Capitol - Des Moines, Iowa

The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office is offering a paid, in-person, undergraduate internship for Summer 2021.

The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office has been a gatekeeper to historical traditions since statehood in 1846. Over the past 170+ years, the office’s duties have evolved and today encompass business services and oversees elections across the State of Iowa.

The Communications Intern is responsible for overseeing the Honor a Veteran and Vote social media channels and administrative work associated with the program. Our interns embellish their writing skills, polish their speaking skills, and become prepared for the real-world experience after college. The job duties include, but are not limited to:
·      Graphic Design with Canva or Other Graphic Design Software
·      Public Speaking
·      Photography
·      Managing the Honor a Veteran Facebook page

Additional responsibilities include assisting the Communications team with special projects such as the Iowa State Fair.

The ideal candidate would be available 40 hours per week w/strong written and verbal skills. Experience with Canva is a plus. This is a paid position, with the opportunity for college credit, if desired – depending on the requirements of your college or university.
