AmeriCorps Member in Natural Resource Management

Do you want to learn about natural lands management and restoration? Become an AmeriCorp Member with Severson Dells Nature Center and you will have an opportunity to learn from some of the best natural resource managers in Illinois. Members will assist in with invasive species removal, collect and sort native plant seed, propagation and planting, help with erosion control projects, cuts trees and removes brush with hand tools. All members will receive training with hand tools and receive an Illinois Department of Agriculture Herbicide Training and Certification. In your application, please rank (1 being your first priority and 4 being your last) your priority of agency you would like to serve with- Forest Preserves of Winnebago County, Boone County Conservation District, Natural Land Institute or the Dekalb County Forest Preserve. We will do our best to give members their first priority, but are limited with the number of spaces at each agency. We may have housing available. This is still to be confirmed, but please let us know in your application if it is something you are interested in. Members will serve 450 hours between May 2022 and August 2022. After the successful completion of hours, members will receive a $1,678.57 education award. During the term of service, members will receive a living allowance of $4,200.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this position, the member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
