Corporate Tax Intern - Summer Associate (Hybrid Model)

***This internship will be a HYBRID (2-3 Days in Office) role**

 As a Summer Associate Intern, you’ll gain insight into how we create and execute on many challenges that come with being one of top retailers in the U.S. This experiential internship opportunity will give you access to develop industry-related knowledge and skills in a professional environment, network with Best Buy employees, and explore various career paths. 
 
The Corporate Tax Intern is responsible for validating sales tax exemption certificates submitted by Best Buy customers wishing to purchase tax-exempt and providing support as defined by the Program Manager. Validation is completed by leveraging a 52-state matrix with 30+ exempt reasons to determine accuracy of each certificate. The Validation Associate is responsible for determining if the certificate aligns with the matrix and either accepts or rejects the customer’s submission. The Associate will use an automated e-mail tool to facilitate an appropriate response to each customer. Performance will be measured by monitoring the number of certificates processed per hour as well as approval accuracy. The Associate must maintain productivity expectations against these metrics after an introductory period. 
 
The Corporate Tax Summer Associate intern will provide support across the entire Tax team. Responsibilities will include: 
  • Validation of sales tax exemption certificates submitted by Best Buy customers  
  • Provide support to Program Manager as needed  
  • Manage weekly working hours and productivity in a flexible work environment 
  • Accurately evaluate exemption certificates against reference material provided 
  • Achieve key performance (KPI’s) metrics after introductory period

Required Skills and Experience:  
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or associate degree from an accredited college/university, graduating between Fall 2022 and Spring 2025 in a business-related field. 
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered) 
  • Must be willing to work in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area in a Hybrid Model (2-3 days in the office)  
  • Basic Microsoft skills 
  • Excellent written communication skills 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment  
  • Detail oriented
