SALARY RANGE:     Hydrogeologist III $5,642.00 to $6,500.00 per month
                                 Hydrogeologist II $5,295.00 to $5,400.00 per month

SUMMARY OF WORK:
Manage groundwater permits and applications in an assigned area and make recommendations to the Department of Water Resources Director and State Engineer.
Document, organize, analyze, and interpret hydrologic data.
Provide technical advice on groundwater resource problems.
Conduct groundwater resource investigations and studies.
Design groundwater monitoring and sampling plans, including the geologic logging of test holes and installation of observation wells.
Develop and organize modeling capabilities for purposes of defining hydrologic properties of aquifers and related hydrologic systems.  

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Hydrogeologist III:
Requires a Master’s of Science degree in the field of geology, hydrogeology, engineering, or closely related field plus three years of progressive responsibility in designing and implementing groundwater modeling initiatives and/or other analytical solutions for aquifer management. Also required is a valid Class D driver’s license.

Hydrogeologist II:
If unable to find qualified applicants at the Hydrogeologist III level, the hiring manager will look at filling the position as a Hydrogeologist II. A Hydrogeologist II requires a Master’s of Science degree in the field of geology, hydrology, engineering, or closely related field plus demonstrated applied knowledge in designing and implementing groundwater modeling initiatives for aquifer management. A valid Class D driver’s license is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Courses or work experience in hydrogeology, groundwater or surface water modeling, or water resources management programs.
Demonstrated experience with either or both finite difference and finite element modeling techniques. 
Knowledge of North Dakota water law.
Knowledge of the water resource planning and management authorities and responsibilities of state and federal agencies and local units of government.
Ability to interpret maps, hydrogeologic data, water resource studies, and reports.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and through public speaking and presentations.
