Language Arts Teacher - Secondary (Jr. High and High School)

Duties & Responsibilities: (Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships)
1. Must be able to teach all levels of the Language Arts curriculum to include willingness to accept higher level course assignment(s).
2. Knowledge and skills using technology.
3. Knowledge of the Common Core related to Language Arts.
4. Knowledge and application of literacy and writing strategies in the content areas.
5. Must work cooperatively with students, staff, and parents to maintain a positive climate in the school.
6. Must be willing to participate in building professional development initiatives concentrating on literacy.
7. Must be skilled at teaching in a team atmosphere and be a participant on a building focus team.
8. Willingness to work as a member of a collaborative teacher team.
9. Willingness to deliver curriculum for students in advisory setting.
10. Follow district and building policies.
11. Co-teach with special education staff in a collaborative effort to benefit instruction to all students.
12. Must have strong writing skills and be skilled in teaching all facets of writing.
13. Other duties as assigned
14. Successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reach his/her full potential
15. Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
16. Skilled, understands and utilizes MTSS or willingness to be trained/knowledgeable
17. Skilled, understands and utilizes PBIS or willingness to be trained/knowledgeable

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties. Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture. Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather, meet multiple demands from several people, and interact with the public and other staff.

Noise level is quiet to loud. Work may be indoors and/or outdoors. Work may be in non-air conditioned rooms. Tobacco and alcohol-free environment. Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public. Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of student.
