High School Teacher - NEW High School

Job Title: General Education and Special Education Teacher (Applicant Pool)
 
**Looking for All General Education Content Areas and Special Education Program areas**
 
Location: Buena Vista High School, 5616 L Street, Omaha, NE 68117
 
Buena Vista High School opens this coming fall (August 2022).
  • This 21st Century style building uses flexible classroom and collaborative spaces for students and staff.
  • Teachers will have the ability to collaborate with colleagues in a common teacher curriculum center location.
  • Student engagement is expected and desired by our students.
Reports To: Building Principal 
 
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: per negotiated agreement / Exempt
 
Salary Schedule: As outlined in applicable negotiated agreement
 
Position Purpose:  Embraces a collaborative learning culture across disciplines.  Plans for, teaches, and facilitates learning for all students. Creates a positive, nurturing, and safe learning environment that allows for student voice. Builds connections and teaches students to be responsible for their learning. Works collaboratively with students, parents, and staff to provide and implement classroom education to meet the needs of all students. Maintains academic progress, records, and discipline.
 
In addition, special education teachers, provide interventions and accommodations to support the students’ participation and progress in the general education curriculum or the alternate curriculum. Works collaboratively with the Individual Education Program team members to provide and implement IEP services to meet the needs of individual students. Creates and implements individualized behavior intervention plans. Provides daily social skills instruction as well as embeds it throughout the curriculum as needed.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Education: Minimum of bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid NE Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain one with appropriate endorsement(s) in content / program area that you will be teaching. 
  • Ability to teach in a 21st Century setting utilizing flexible classrooms and collaborative spaces.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues in a common teacher curriculum center location to support student needs and instruction.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships to promote mutual dignity and respect among students and staff. 
  • Ability and patience to work interactively with students.
  • A demonstrated philosophy that all students can and will learn.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Excellent communication skills oral and written.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Best Instructional Practices.
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office 365 products and the student information system.
  • Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education.
  • This individual will exhibit skills pertinent to foster positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • A willingness and demonstrated abilities conducive to a continuous quest for quality education.
