Research Database Architect

Job Title: Research Database Architect
Location: Teacher Administrative Center, 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha, NE 68131
Reports To: Executive Director of Research & Accountability
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 day 12-month / Salaried Exempt
Salary Schedule: S04/92F Specialist 6: Step 1 $110,379.37
 
Position Purpose:  Improvement in student outcomes in the future will be increasingly aligned to the need to increase data use district wide and by reducing burdens placed on schools and programs for the manual production of data. This position will assist our district in transitioning to this future.  
 
Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Design databases to support educational applications, ensuring system scalability, security, performance, validity, and reliability.
  • Develop database architectural strategies at the modeling, design, and implementation stages to address the responsibility of the Research Division for supporting data use.
  • Develop database clusters, backups, and recovery processes.
  • Collaborate with IMS staff to connect the Research Database to other legacy databases (e.g., the Datamart), and to ensure communication regarding legacy database developments.
  • Respond to requests for student achievement information from state/federal agencies, OPS staff, and schools.
  • Serve as a critical member of the Districts internal and external dashboard initiatives.
  • Partner with external consultants to research and develop new apps and tools to increase student engagement towards those goals that are associated with the creation of an educated and civil society through the development and education of students.
  • Integrate and update data from the Nebraska Department of Education into the Research Database.
  • Extract and integrate data from other systems (e.g., Assessment Entry System, and Assessment Systems).
  • Ensure secure, timely, access to data by all approved stakeholders.
  • Support data requests and district data dependent activities (e.g., assessment rostering and state and federal reporting) as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology and Data Visualization related field required.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of database administration or relevant IT experience with recent or current versions of Microsoft SQL Server required.
  • Minimum five years of experience in the creation, articulation, and maintenance of relational databases.
  • MS SQL Database Administration certification highly preferred.
  • Strong relational database coding and querying skills.
  • Experience compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, and verifying data.
  • Ability to creatively develop low revenue and efficiency dependent solutions for emerging challenges associated with data dissemination.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in creation of process automation.
  • Experience in dashboard development from data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) to using tools like Tableau to create visualizations.
