Public Works GIS Intern
City of Apple Valley is seeking a seasonal GIS Intern in the Public Works Department.
General Duties: Supports the daily Geographic Information System (GIS) needs of the Public Works Department with development, maintenance and implementation of the City’s Geographic Information System. Performs tasks related to creating, updating and formatting maps and figures to meet departmental requests, including data entry and maintenance of GIS related databases.
Schedule: Weekday daytime hours between 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Up to 40 hours per week for up to 5 months.
Pay Range: $15.00 – $17.00 hourly
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent; currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Cartography, GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field; ability to operate Geographic Information Systems; knowledge and experience with ESRI ArcGIS and Microsoft Office software; organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to perform assignments under minimal direction; ability to communicate in a courteous, positive and professional manner; and ability to meet the physical requirements of the position. Employment offers are contingent on successful result of background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Cartography, GIS, Geography, Computer Science or related field; experience with, or understanding of, engineering plans and drawings; knowledge of ArcGIS Online; and advanced proficiency in GIS software.
