IT Data Center Student Assistant
This student position is part of Information Technology Services (ITS)-Enterprise Infrastructure (EI) department, and provides an opportunity, as a member of the Data Centers team, to learn real-world job skills, including collaboration, communication, and customer service.
Responsibilities include:
- Parts and Inventory Management: sort, store, and label disks; surplus equipment; inventory management.
- Customer Service; use of email: form templates; communicating in time sensitive situations
- Special Projects: documentation; auditing; data entry
- Other duties as assigned: shipping & receiving; cleanup of physical workspace; being available to greet guests at data center; organizing cabinets.
Requirements:
- Student with an interest in learning about a multi-faceted organization with varied job duties.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing work priorities and assignments.
- Customer service experience in a previous role.
- Ability to perform physical functions required of position: lift and move technical equipment weighing up to 25 pounds; and required ability to bend, stand, and climb ladders as necessary.
- Adherence to UI Driving policy https://opsmanual.uiowa.edu/administrative-financial-and-facilities-policies/risk-management-insurance-and-loss-prevention-5 . Valid driver license and willingness to occasionally drive for work is required. A three-year history driving review will be conducted for finalist.
- Criminal background check for finalist
Location will rotate between Coralville and Iowa City ITS data center sites; ITS will provide off campus transportation.
