International Writing Program Virtual Programs & Events Graduate Assistantship
The IWP’s 12-month, 50% time graduate assistant position will collaborate with the IWP staff to achieve the following:
Digital Asset/Platform Set up & Delivery:
LMS Course set up and delivery
- Work with program coordinators and other IWP/UI staff to get open (UI Learn) or closed, internal (ICON) pages arranged for each cohort
- Invite students and workshop facilitators to the site/group
- Facilitate a technology orientation session; update & distribute any how-to artifacts as needed
- Ensure course content is plugged into the course in time for course dates
- May sit in on classes to transfer Zoom hosting to the facilitator if needed
Course Design
- Help coordinator design online or asynchronous course structures to maximize learning potential for diverse, international audiences
- Assist with ensuring ADA compliance, research and implement feasible best practices as they emerge
Video Production
- Utilize media production tools including digital video cameras, tablets, Zoom, and Adobe software to develop instructional videos from visiting writers and campus instructors
- Assist with captioning quality checks and editing
Communication and Administration: 25%
Author/Instructor Coordination
- Coordinate recording sessions for digital content with visiting authors, course instructors
- Ensure the necessary releases, permissions, content/trigger warnings, credits, and approvals are captured for IWP and author records
Strategic Planning
- Assist in drafting strategic priorities for the International Writing Program’s digital asset collection
Program Administration
- Maintain a roster of potential visiting writers and recorded course content
- Ensure assets are appropriately tagged and described for optimal searchability
- Assist with website updates and rotating featured digital assets based on relevancy and strategic plan
- Other duties as assigned, based on department needs and graduate assistant’s area of academic expertise or interest
Required Qualifications
- Commitment to innovation in remote learning
- Reliability, flexibility, imagination, and attention to detail
- Ability to work productively in a team setting with a variety of cultures & identities
- Strong computer and media skills, particularly video editing
- Demonstrated commitment to a diverse, global audience and unique technology challenges
Preferred Qualifications
- Online teaching or course design/UX experience
- Acumen with digital media production tools and social media platforms
- Interest in literature
- Advanced knowledge of campus media and learning tools
