Student Employee - Chemistry Administrative Office

Objective:
The objective of a student employee with the University of Iowa - Department of Chemistry Administrative Office is to support the functions of the department by assisting the Department Chair, Administrator, Graduate Coordinator and Administrative Services Coordinator in daily operations. The student employee works closely with office staff to provide customer service to faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students.

Functions:
Some specific functions of a student employee include:
·        Maintaining the database of keys for the Chemistry Building and Iowa Advanced Technologies Laboratory (IATL)
·        Assisting walk-in traffic by answering questions, giving directions or directing them to the appropriate staff member
·        Sorting Mail
·        Maintaining office supplies, printer paper, pens, paper towels, etc.
·        Creating and posting flyers from a template for seminars, colloquium and other department functions
·        Posting notices for conference room usage
·        Checking Chemistry Admin email and corresponding to messages as appropriate
·        Preparing a weekly bulletin containing pertinent information for the department
·        Update Chemistry website with seminar and colloquium events
·        Make and serve coffee for weekly department events
·        Assist office staff with various projects and other duties as assigned

Necessary Skills:
·        Ability to use Microsoft software products, specifically Word, Teams, Publisher and PowerPoint
·        Ability to interface with the public in a courteous and professional manner
·        Ability to effectively communicate via email and telephone
·        Attention to detail

Work Schedule:
·        Work schedule is flexible, with hours falling between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM
·        Approximately 10-20 hours per week
