Postgraduate Clinical Systems Fellowship - Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence

The Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) is offering a postgraduate fellowship. This clinical systems fellowship is an outstanding training opportunity and will be located at the Defense Health Headquarters, Falls Church VA, and Walter Reed Hospital.

What will I be doing?

As an ORISE participant, you will be a part of a network of ORISE fellows conducting life-changing research across the Nation with EACE. You will be provided a hands-on, collaborative experience to take an early-stage project from initiation to analysis to a fielded system in a short period of time. The knowledge gained will provide you a highly desired skill-set in the area of clinical systems analysis.

Under the guidance of multiple mentors, you will have the opportunity to advance your proficiency and skill as you learn how to develop and integrate clinician-based patient and provider system requirements into a novel system for tracking clinical outcomes. The system is referred to as the Clinical Assessment Management Portal "CAMP". Understanding clinical systems enables you to play a key role in identifying the systems requirements for a healthcare operation and support decisions regarding future growth and efficiency. In addition, it enables you to make recommendations on designing applications for patient assessment, develop functional requirements, and focus on how best to meet clinical goals.

Why should I apply?

Analytical skills, communication skills, and creativity are all skills you will learn during this opportunity. This clinical data project (CAMP) database requires ongoing development, system design, and implementation. You will collaborate with clinicians led by a primary mentor to gain consensus prior to engaging the CAMP development team to build the system. The CAMP is now in it's third year of development. As the selected candidate, your goal will be to demonstrate completeness, accuracy, and functionality of each outcome metric as it is incorporated into the on-line database portal. Additionally, you will design customized graphic user interfaces supporting the CAMP staff with the development and implementation of reports required at multiple levels of leadership (clinic, facility, enterprise).

Where will I be located?

Falls Church, Virginia

What is the anticipated start date?

EACE is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

What is the appointment length?

This appointment is a 12-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

What are the benefits?

You will receive a stipend to be determined by EACE. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

  • Health Insurance Supplement (Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE)
  • Relocation Allowance
  • Training and Travel Allowance

Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. in health care informatics, data science, graphic design, information technology, health care administration or related field.
