Environmental Health Section Program Manager

The Division of Public Health is recruiting for a Program Manager to oversee the Environmental Health Section in the Bureau of Communicable Disease Prevention. Program oversight includes the Food Protection, Environmental Health, Toxicology, and Childhood Blood Lead Programs. This position will be responsible for program administration and direction of these statewide programs, including overall management, planning, evaluation, communication, coordination, grants, budgets, and personnel supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear focus, direction and leadership for the Environmental Health Section, including health program managers and Public Health Toxicologist
  • Manage federal and state funds, including budget development, monitoring, and preparation of grant-required financial reporting 
  • Ensure coordination of federal funding application submission, reporting, and performance measurement of grants within the Section 
  • Oversee development of contracts and subgrants within the Section
  • Seek opportunities for cooperation, collaboration, partnership, and integration with other programs, bureaus, agencies, and initiatives 
  • Ensure program quality, integrity, and compliance with state and federal program requirements
  • Support quality improvement and performance management for programs within the Section.
  • Maximize use of program resources to support program quality and innovation
  • Evaluate the impact of programs to improve health status of targeted populations
  • Identify public health policies to address identified risks and needs of target populations
  • Align policies and services with the mission of the Bureau, Division, and the Department
  • Hire, train, and supervise professional and administrative environmental health staff 

Benefit Information:

Our generous benefits package increases the total compensation of a full-time (benefits eligible) Program Manager making $32.88/hour to an estimated $45.56/hour.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXTRA CREDIT:  
 
Below are additional qualifications. They are not required, however, having the minimum qualifications and the education and/or experience below will increase your score. Please answer each item below with enough detail to determine you meet each requirement to receive extra credit.

  1. Knowledge of epidemiology principles and practices. Gained by undergraduate studies with an emphasis in public health epidemiology and at least one year of at least half-time experience applying epidemiology principles and practices at a professional level OR a degree in public health. 
  2. Experience managing complex, multi-stream budgets. Gained by at least two years of experience managing multiple funding sources to support programmatic activities.
  3. Knowledge of state and federal food safety regulations. Gained through undergraduate education in environmental public health or safety and sanitation OR at least one year of experience working in a program that oversees food safety activities. 
  4. Certification in an environmental health field.
