Purpose

Applied Research Laboratories’ (ARL:UT) Strategic Communications Office (SCO) is seeking a Public Release and Communications Specialist to administer its public release program, manage the development and production of publications / editorial projects as lead technical editor and writer, and provide support for departmental projects and initiatives.
SCO is responsible for providing a spectrum of creative products, as well as overseeing compliance with sponsoring agencies and university guidelines on external and internal messaging and safeguarding technologies via our public release program. We also manage web design and development for ARL:UT’s intranet site and public internet websites, and are the caretakers of its archives, which include reports, former director holdings, photos, and noteworthy but decommissioned equipment.

Responsibilities


  • Administer ARL:UT’s public release program by processing and tracking release requests, corresponding with researchers and leadership, and maintaining effective relationships with sponsoring agency representatives; make recommendations on enhancing public release forms, procedures and records.
  • Manage the development and production of SCO publications and editorial projects; conduct research and develop content for web products, social media, presentations and displays; provide writing and editorial services for the department as needed. 
  • Manage and maintain database of all ARL:UT publications; collaborate with SCO Design and Archival Technician on ARL:UT historical archive projects and tasking.
  • Complete other related Strategic Communications Office, research staff, or Directors' Office projects and assignments as requested.
  • Contribute, communicate with, and support department initiatives and communication team members; complete other assignments as requested.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five years of experience developing and producing a variety of publications and/or editorial content.
  • Strong grammar, editing and writing skills and ability to demonstrate them.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, and ability to communicate effectively with a large group of diverse clients in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to set priorities and multitask.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively or independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise discretion with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Advanced skill set in MS Word, Excel, Acrobat.
US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s in English, Communications or with coursework in related field
  • Experience overseeing an editorial, communications or administrative program.
  • Strong project management skills and experience using project management software.
  • Experience and/or a strong interest in working with a historical archive.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
