Temporary - Environmental Conservation Information Specialist

The Environmental Educator is a temporary/seasonal staff position scheduled to work between 10 and 25 hours per week in a school program setting. The position will assist with the Earth Camp (field) and Earth School (classroom) programs. This includes, but is not limited to: -teaching fifth graders about watersheds, the Edwards Aquifer, and actions students can take to improve water quality in our creeks and springs. -working as a team. -managing materials such as models, traveling to various sites (ie. schools), and assisting with Watershed Protection Department’s other youth education programs as needed and available.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to Environmental Science, Life Science, Natural Science, plus two (2) years of experience in a related field.
  • Master’s degree may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.

Preferred Experience:
  • Teaching experience (as a formal or informal educator.
  • Knowledge about environmental science, particularly related to aquifers, watersheds, and water quality.
  • Availability to work weekdays between the hours of 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Ability to transport educational materials.
  • Fluent in conversational Spanish.

TRAVEL: If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards of the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
