LTE - Wildlife Technician (Poynette)

We are dedicated to working with Wisconsinites while preserving and enhancing the natural resources of Wisconsin. In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring two LTE – Wildlife Technicians located at our State Game Farm in Poynette, Wisconsin.

These Wildlife Technician positions will assist in fall pheasant captures and crating for stocking on State Wildlife Areas. These positions will also help with pen maintenance and cleaning after pheasants have left. They are also responsible for the removal of dusty corn from feeders and shifting to other pens in buckets, walking into pens to check for holes in fence or flight netting, and lowering of flight netting when pen is empty.

50% - Catching and crating pheasants for release onto wildlife areas. Team will herd pheasants into catch pens where they will be caught with nets and transferred to crates on trailers. 

30% - Winterize pens: Clean feeders by scooping any remaining feed out with buckets. Lowering flight netting by removing 2x4 supports. 

20% - Cleaning pheasant transfer crates by removing feathers and dirt. Using hand tools to repair any broken crates.  

Pay Rate
Between $13.25 - $15.00 per hour depending on experience and training.

Job Details
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.  

LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.

In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Qualifications
Required:
- Ability to work outside in winter weather conditions doing physical labor
- Ability to walk on uneven ground and in dusty conditions 
- Ability to do repetitive bending and reaching
- Ability to lift 30 lb crates without assistance and 90lbs crates with assistance

Preferred:
- Previous experience working around animals
- General knowledge of animal husbandry
- Does not have poultry or waterfowl at home
