Part-Time Adult Basic Education Instructors

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
·    Bachelor degree with a minor in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or Special Needs Education (not Music, Art, or Physical Education)
OR
·    Bachelor degree with 20 semester credits in Elementary Education (not Music, Art, or Physical Education), Secondary Education, or Special Needs Education
OR
·    Bachelor degree with 20 semester credits in one of the following: Communication, Math, Science, or Reading, and 3 credits of any combination of Reading Instruction and Teaching Methods.
·    Master’s degree preferred.
·    Teaching experience, specifically with adult learners, desirable.
·    Ability to work in a team environment.
 
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·        Help diverse population of learners acquire Basic Education skills and reach their goals for education, employment, and personal enrichment through learning opportunities provided in a positive and nurturing environment
·        Provide student advising within the following areas of instruction: 
A.           Math skills - whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, measurements, real numbers, algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities, word problems and measurements ratio/proportions, geometry
B.           Reading skills – reading rate, comprehension, and vocabulary
C.           Language skills – Grammar, Usage, Mechanics, Paragraphing and Writing Conventions
D.           Study Skills Seminars - strategies for textbook study and concentration, using your notes and your time to your advantage
E.           Preparing for tests and easing anxiety
F.           Test taking Strategies
G.           Civics—Wisconsin and Federal Government structure and function
H.           Social Studies—Civics and government, US History, economics, geography and the world
I              Science—Life science, physical science, earth and space science
J.            High School Transcript review.
K.           Proctor and review results of their Career Plan assessment.
J.            College 101( or On Course principle)—embedded activities within curriculum coursework
·        Proctor TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) pre-testing and post testing.
·        Facilitate completion of State and NWTC required paperwork for each student.
·        Record student attendance hours and submit weekly.
·        Issue GED® Ready tests, and review results and next steps with students.
·        Assist students in applying for NWTC GED® Test Fee Scholarships, or HSED State Credentialing Fee.
·        Support students through the GED® Test registration process.
·        Guide HSED students through the draft and final letter to the Department of Public Instruction requesting their High School Equivalency Diploma.

·        Responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering instruction and assessment of learning outcomes.
·        Utilize engaging instructional strategies and methodologies which foster student success both in and outside of the classroom.
·        Maintain accurate student records and communication.
·        Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals. This includes being accessible to students outside of scheduled classroom time. 
·        Provide educational leadership and work effectively with faculty, administration, and campus support staff.  
·        Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation.
·        Comply with College policies and practices related to instruction, assessment, and delivery.  
·        Additional duties and responsibilities will be discussed as needs arise.
