Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

We are looking for an innovative, empathetic, rational, dependable, and organized person to champion our health and safety efforts at QLI. 

The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist will work with a collaborative team to…
   1. Document data, maintain medical records, and complete reporting consistent with OSHA and other regulatory  requirements.
   2. Participate in QLI’s safety committee and report on injury trends within the company.
   3. Illness + Infection Prevention
     a. Collect new hire immunization records and assess for any current vaccine needs.
     b. Assist with the administrations of immunizations and TB tests for team members.
     c. Identify and manage personal protective equipment needs and processes. 
     d. Provide large and small-group instruction on proper hand hygiene and other infection control measures.
     e. Serve on the QLI COVID-19 Response team and conduct COVID-19 viral testing as needed (training provided).
   4. Injury Prevention + Response
     a. Prevention
       i. Conduct pre-employment fitness screenings for new hires.
       ii. Oversee new hire drug screens and work with supervisors to facilitate additional drug testing needs when required.
       iii. Provide large and small group instruction on safe work practices including back safety and proper body mechanics.
       iv. Partner with team members on the job to assess and recommend safe work practices and office ergonomics.
       v. Collaborate with QLI clinical teams to improve the safety of resident transfer and other care routines.
     b. Response
       i. Respond to team member incidents and injuries in a timely and empathetic manner.
       ii. Make knowledgeable injury assessments and provide treatment guidance in collaboration with our occupational health partner, including coordinating fit-for-duty assessments.
       iii. Conduct effective case management of worker’s compensation claims.
       iv. Facilitate safe and timely return to work after injury including working with supervisors on implementing plans for light duty when necessary.
       v. Conduct injury investigations and recommend prevention strategies in collaboration with the safety committee and other company leaders.
   5. Teach adult CPR/AED classes (instructor training provided).

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities: 
   1. Possess knowledge of applicable healthcare regulations (OSHA, CDC, CMS, FMLA, HIPAA, etc.) to serve as a reliable and knowledgeable resource for the prevention of injuries and illnesses in the workplace. 
   2. Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with teams at all levels of the organization and relate to individuals of varying backgrounds.
   3. Maintain confidentiality and be seen as a trustworthy, approachable team member.
   4. Initiate tasks independently and display innovativeness and problem solving. 
   5. Demonstrate a high degree of organization and attention to detail.

Education / Certifications: 
   1. Experience in physical rehabilitation or occupational health or any medical setting (required)
   2. CPR and First Aid certified (training provided)
   3. Nebraska CNA and/or Medication Aide Certification (preferred)
   4. Additional training in occupational health and safety (preferred)

Schedule: 
   · Full-time
   · On call for employee illness and injury issues on a rotating schedule. 

Location:  This position is on-site.

Vaccination Requirements: 
   · All team members are required to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination. If needed, we will provide vaccination at QLI, free of charge.
