POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
WASECA SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT

The Waseca Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting applications for a District Technician.
 
Under the Supervision of the District Manager, the District Technician assists with the technical aspects of implementing conservation practices. This position works with landowners, communities, and other units of government to install conservation projects and implement conservation programs.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
-        Conducts site investigations and inventories, assisting the public with enrollment into various local, state, and federal conservation programs.
-        Survey, design, stake and construction oversight of best management practices.
-        Coordinates the District Tree Program and is familiar with tree pests, tree species, and diseases. Maintains tree planter and rental schedule.
-        Performs duties of the Reinvest in Minnesota (RIM) program including, but not limited to, landowner contact and applications, easement acquisition, practice implementation, and program compliance.
-        Attends meetings and professionally represents the SWCD at various meetings as directed by the District Manager; assists with grant writing and reporting.
-        Keeps records of land use activities and maintains landowner records of conservation practices.
-        Works cooperatively with state, federal and local agencies, boards and organizations in promoting various conservation programs and accomplishing goals and objectives of established plans.
-        Presents information about conservation programs to the public and to school groups, civic groups, and other organizations.
-        Performs other duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
 
 
 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of two year degree/experience is preferred in biology, environmental science, soils, agronomy, and natural resources management or related field.
-        Experience with computers and the ability to use Arc GIS, Beacon, GPS, equipment, and computer software such as Outlook, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office.
-        Must be able to work independently, indoors and outdoors, with a minimum amount of direct supervision. This position is required to conduct work outside in areas that may have uneven and difficult terrain at various rural sites throughout the county.
-        Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
-        Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
-        Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
-        Must complete a Background check for USDA Authorization.
-        Ability to acquire and maintain Technical Approval Authority (TAA) for the design and installation of Conservation Practices.
-        Familiar with common agricultural equipment and uses.
 
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience:
A minimum of four year degree/experience is preferred in biology, environmental science, soils, agronomy, and natural resources management or related field.
-        Knowledge of MN Buffer Law and experience with BuffCat software.
-        Experience with Trimble GPS Survey Equipment.
-        Experience in operating an ATV, Drill, Tree Planter, Pickup Truck with Trailer.
-        Have existing Job Approval Authority (JAA).
-        Experience with NRCS Conservation Planning and CRP Planning.
-        Knowledge of SWCD and NRCS programs and eligibility requirements.
-        Familiar with soil properties and use of USDA Soil Surveys.

Compensation and Benefits:
