Special Event Coordinator

I Goals and Objectives

The goal of the Alumni Programs Internship is to provide an exposure to and work experience in an Alumni Association. This goal will be enhanced by the following objectives:

A. Learn the practical aspects of the alumni operation including programming, event planning, working with an alumni board, tailgate and reunion programming, and fundraising
B. Observe and participate in alumni programs
C. Acquaint yourself with individuals within the College of Dentistry, including but not limited to Ed. Media, IT and Administration.
D. Learn about major components that comprise an alumni program and CASE's (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education) core alumni curriculum
E. Bring theory to practice through hands-on experience in writing.

II Length of Internship

The internship will last mid-May 2023 through mid-December 2023, covering both the summer and fall semesters. Twenty hours of office work per week will be expected (and paid); accommodations will be made for academic requirements during the fall semester. The student will serve a schedule mutually agreed upon by student and supervisor in order to complete required number of hours for internship credit. Contact me if you are interested in this position but are not needing academic credit; this can be adjusted.

III Supervision

The intern will be supervised by the Alumni Director and report directly to the Director. The supervisor will evaluate the student during the academic portion of the internship (if necessary). The student will meet with the Alumni Director weekly to discuss and evaluate the experience and will participate in various meetings.

IV Responsibilities of Intern

The student and supervisor will meet at the beginning of the summer to decide the activities to be included in each area based on the level of experience of the student.

V Intern Performance Expectations

A. Establish and hold regular office hours
B. Attend weekly event planning meetings
C. Complete required number of hours of work per week (approximately 20 hours/week in the summer and early fall)
D. Plan and coordinate assigned special events including all writing involved
E. Assist with the implementation of Continuing Education programs
F. Assist with duties as assigned

VI Projects

A. Coordinate and help host the annual Alumni Reunion Weekend (Sept. 15-16, 2023)*
B. Coordinate and help host designated alumni events
C. Assist with social media

VII Written Assignments

A. Complete weekly report
B. All invitations, emails, correspondences and any other marketing/advertising done in conjunction with events student is planning will be written by student and reviewed by supervisor

VIII Compensation: $11/hour
