Your Contributions to Work Group:
In order to ensure a good product send out the door, testing all software releases in a high fidelity lab environment based on a dSPACE test platform. All sensor inputs to the electronic system are simulated by the dSPACE test hardware. All actuator outputs of the control system are directed by the dSPACE hardware to the physical loads present on the machine. Dynamic simulations running on the dSPACE hardware of the machine hydraulic, transmission, engine systems, and operator provide a connection between the system outputs and the inputs. The result is a complete virtual environment in which to test our control systems.

Experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or Electrical Engineering required. 3 years experience required.

Typical Day:
The person in this position will be responsible for helping developers test their software releases. This is accomplished by a combination of manual and automated testing. We use manual testing when software is new and the design is still evolving. In this stage creativity and problem solving are key. The tester needs to probe the system for weakness. It is also important to be able to troubleshoot presumed failures to the point where they can be repeated and described in detail to the developers. The tester will be required to work with software developers, system engineers, and a test lead to develop these tests based off of system specifications. Where these specifications are incomplete, the tester will work with these same people to fill in the details. Development of automated scripts is also key in this role as it allows us to perform tests repeatedly and cost effectively over the course of the machine development cycle.

Critical Technical Skills:
  • Experience in development of software or automated test scripts in C or Python.
  • Experience in HIL
  • Experience in embedded software test or development. Experience with dSPACE or National Instruments Test Equipment. Experience with Vector CANape, CANoe or similar tools. Experience with Mathworks, Matlab and Simulink toolsets.

Soft Skills Required:
Must be able and willing to TROUBLESHOOT complex testing systems comprised of hundreds of I/O channels. Must be willing to work WITH customers to fill in the blanks when requirements are incomplete. Must be willing and able to write code that is configurable and sustainable over the long haul rather than crank out a solution for today.
