Library Summer Intern

Internship Dates: 100 hours to be scheduled starting as early as May 9 and ending no later than August 14, 2024, primarily during June and July.

Positions are available at:

  • The Anderson Branch Library (3635 Touzalin Avenue, 68507).
  • The Bennett Martin Public Library (136 South 14th Street, 68508 ).
  • The Eiseley Branch Library (1530 Superior Street, 68521).
  • The Gere Branch Library (2400 South 56th Street, 68506).
  • The Walt Branch Library (6701 S. 14th Street, 68512).
  • The Jane Pope Geske Heritage Room of Nebraska Authors, located in the Bennett Martin Public Library (136 S. 14th Street, 68508).


There are three required training sessions and required attendance at a Library Board meeting, all at the Bennett Martin Public Library (136 South 14th Street, 68508). Mileage will be reimbursed if using a personal vehicle. Reimbursement for other means of transportation will not be available.

Hours: Part-time, Monday – Sunday as assigned. Hours will vary. May include some evenings until 8:00 pm. This is a temporary internship position that ends on or before August 14, 2024.

Interns will be required to attend the following:

  • Training – Friday, June 14, 2024 – 11am-12pm – Bennett Martin Public Library (136 S. 14th Street)
  • Training – Friday, June 28, 2024 – 11am-12pm – Bennett Martin Public Library (136 S. 14th Street)
  • Training – Friday, July 12, 2024 – 11am-12pm – Bennett Martin Public Library (136 S. 14th Street)
  • Library Board Meeting – Tuesday, July 16, 2024 – 8am-9am – Bennett Martin Public Library (136 S. 14th Street)


The Nebraska Library Internship program introduces high school and college students to the varied and exciting work of Nebraska libraries by involving them in real library work that takes advantage of their experience and interests. Interns at all locations will be introduced to the full array of public library work including the scope and value of the variety of diverse programs and activities held at public libraries throughout the state. Tasks will include checking materials in, checking materials out, placing materials on hold, requesting items via InterLibrary Loan, creating/maintaining displays, answering reference questions, registering customers for library cards, providing community outreach, facilitating Maker events, registering customers for Summer Reading, and assisting with regular programming and special events.
