University HR Welcome Center Student Employee

University Human Resources is the on-campus organization that seeks to assist all University of Iowa faculty, staff and students with fundamental employment needs such as payroll, benefits, immigration services, disability services and talent acquisition. We’re currently seeking a conscientious, self-motivated student employee to join the team and assist with the operation of the University HR Welcome Center!

 

The ideal applicant will be interested in HR and learning about the complex systems in place that help the University run at an optimum level for our faculty, staff and students. 

 

Confidentiality is a requirement as this position will have access to confidential and sensitive information and data.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Be the “Face of University HR”, serving as the first impression for visitors entering the University Services Building.
  • Greet and direct all walk-in visitors at the University HR Welcome Center.
  • Responsible for answering the HR admin phoneline.
  • Assist as needed with other clerical and data entry tasks.
  • Be a vigilant advocate for safety, both for staff and visitors, including advocating for safe practices and procedures within the workplace.
  • Assist Payroll Services with daily clerical tasks.
  • Assist as needed within the University Benefits team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

 

  • Attention to detail
  • Strong customer service skills, ability to greet and assist visitors with finding the right resources
  • Desire to learn more about any aspect of human resources
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, including sensitive visitor information
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work on a steady schedule
  • Preferred: Ability to work through academic break periods (negotiable as needed)

 

Desired Qualifications: 

 

  • Highly effective in-person communication skills
  • Front Office or secretarial experience is preferred

 

Required Work Schedule: University HR is open from 8am-5pm, ability to work within these hours is required. Shift times are flexible and can be modified based on class schedules. Summer 2024 work availability required, times are flexible.

 

Salary Level     

$12.50 (starting)
