Instructional Coach - PK-12 ESL (SY 24-25)

Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional ALL GRADES ESL INSTRUCTIONAL COACH who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who seek a challenging yet rewarding teaching experience. In collaboration with the district’s Office of Multilingual Learners, this position is responsible for supporting the district’s and TIMES2 Academy’s ESL/MLL program initiatives. This position coaches teachers, models lessons, coteaches, collaboratively plans, provides feedback to teachers, conducts professional development, and collaborates with a administrators, as well as provides guidance and expertise in the bet practices for successful language acquisition, specifically in the four language domain areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening.
 
We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin. EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

 

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.

RIDE Certification Requirements:

All Grades English to Speakers of Other Languages Teacher, Grades PK-12

OR

English as a Second Language Specialist/Consultant

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES

 

  1. Coach and support teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing quality instruction for Els/MLLs.
  2. Plan, model, and co-teach effective lessons with teachers.
  3. Regularly meet with teachers to provide feedback to teachers to improve instructional planning, delivery, and assessment, including planning for ongoing monitoring and support for the successful language acquisition.
  4. Assist with the supervision and administration of the district’s ESL/MLL program, including curriculum and instructional program.
  5. Analyze Standards of Learning, ACCESS for Els/MLLs, and assessment data to identify areas for improvement, establish goals, and monitor improvement.
  6. Provide leadership and support in the development, implementation, and revisions of the ESL curriculum.
  7. Develop and conduct professional developments for teachers and administrators regarding instructional strategies and best practices for Els/MLLs.
  8. Coordinate and facilitate teacher study group activities and the sharing of successful lessons to ensure the successful implementation of the program.
  9. Meet regularly with District ESL Instructional Staff regarding classroom practices and ongoing feedback.
  10. Participate in ongoing professional development by attending workshops, lectures, and institutes on specific subjects to enhance job performance such as knowledge in language acquisition, literacy development, coaching skills, and adult learning theory.
  11. Stay informed of all federal and state Title III and LEP/ EL guidelines.
  12. Assist in ESL/MLL program presentations, professional development sessions, state assessments, and trainings as needed.
  13. Assist in planning and implementation of summer programs which will include MLLs.
  14. Assist with the selection of textbooks, instructional materials, instructional resources, and equipment for the ESL/MLL program.
  15. Maintain detailed logs of support provided to students.
  16. Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  17. Perform all regular teacher functions.
