  • Duties
    • Promote person-centered, individualized, support to college students with intellectual and cognitive disabilities 
    • Interact directly with UI REACH students in the residence halls, campus, community, at student organization events, in group settings, and 1 to 1 meetings 
    • Provide social, navigation, and scheduling support to students participating in inclusive campus and community activities
    • Facilitate activities that encourage social interactions
    • Model and encourage acceptable social behaviors and effective peer-to-peer interactions 
    • Establish and maintain rapport with UI REACH students serving as a role model in areas of personal appearance, communication, interpersonal skills, decision- making, and responsibility
    • Meet regularly 1 to 1 with several students to work towards goal completion as outlined on the student’s individualized person-centered plan
    • Maintain regular documentation of interactions, concerns, and growth 
    • Assist students in developing and utilizing problem-solving strategies 
    • Attend semester in August and January trainings and monthly training sessions to increase skills and competencies
    • Assist students with workplace readiness skills through navigation support and job coaching within internship settings 
    • Aid students in learning how to access and utilize community resources including Cambus and city bus services
    • Accurately record and submit timecard hours
    • Other duties as assigned to help students develop their social and independent living skills

 

  • Requirements and Qualifications
    • Previous experience working with people with disabilities is encouraged but not required
    • Flexible schedule for 1:1 student connects and support on campus and in the community
    • Willingness to learn and grow in the position 
    • Ability to react and adapt in fast paced situations
    • Ability to work nights and weekends (approximately 2 self-scheduled weekends per month)
    • Successful completion of criminal background check
