Special Education Resource Teacher

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: To apply a candidate must have or be eligible to obtain a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education with an endorsement in Special Education. The ability to motivate students while providing an appropriate, well managed, and positive learning environment is necessary. Work effectively with staff, administration and the community in a collaborative teaching model. Ability to organize and prioritize needs of students grades K-12 collectively and individually. Interpersonal skills and experience in working with various staff members participating in team planning/collaboration.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Will be a part of a building team that plans a program of instruction for students with disabilities using a variety of methodology including direct instruction, co-teaching, and consultative models. Must be able to provide instruction that meets students’ individual needs, abilities and interest as determined by tests, records and observations. Will be responsible for developing students’ academic, social, adaptive, and pre-vocational skills. May involve working with students that experience cognitive disabilities and behavioral challenges. Will assume duties such as testing, IEP writing, collecting and interpreting data, maintaining case files and records. Must be able to conduct parent and teacher conferences and run effective, well-organized meetings. Must be able to create individual student and paraprofessional schedules including multiple services provided by related service personnel. Must be able to effectively provide program direction and training to paraprofessionals. Must be able to manage and correct a wide variety of student behavior with positive, pro-active behavior plans. Must keep informed of current developments in his/her field of Special Education. Requires a willingness to teach in an online and blended format. Teacher will work under the direct supervision of the building administrator. Will work cooperatively with the Pupil Services Director and Program Manager to maintain an effective special education program that conforms to State standards. Other duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education with an endorsement in Special Education on/or before the first contract day.
