JOB QUALIFICATIONS: To apply a candidate must have or be eligible to obtain a current Alaska Teacher Certificate with an endorsement in Language Arts/English, Reading, or equivalent and have a strong background in assisting struggling readers and writers to catch up to their peers. Experience with the READ 180 program preferred. Must have good computer skills and be able to employ district computer programs to post grades and to communicate with parents. Must be able to teach middle school Language Arts and have practical knowledge of interdisciplinary approaches. JOB DESCRIPTION: Will be responsible for teaching middle school Language Arts and Reading courses. Must be able to design a program for and develop an excellent rapport with middle school students who are advanced as well as students who are struggling with reading fluency, reading comprehension, and writing. Must have excellent computer skills including familiarity with using blogs and reading intervention programs in the classroom. Requires a willingness to teach in an online and blended format. Must understand thematic teaching and use format lesson design. Must be willing to be involved in school-wide activities. Ability to sponsor/coach extracurricular activities desired. Other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a current Alaska Teacher Certificate with an endorsement in Language Arts/English, Reading, or equivalent on/or before the first contract day.
