Location: State Historical Society in Iowa City, Iowa
Semester: Summer 2024 (Tuesday, May 21st – Thursday, August 8th)
Compensation: $15 per hour, 8 hours per week
Internship Overview: Join the State Historical Society of Iowa as a Special Collections Intern this summer! This exciting internship offers the opportunity to process approximately 8 linear feet of unprocessed photographic collections, working directly with an experienced archivist on a meaningful project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize historical photographs into archival envelopes.
- Label photographs with clear handwriting and re-box them for easy accessibility.
- Create and maintain an inventory of the collection using Microsoft Excel.
- Collaborate with the archivist to ensure efficient project completion.
- Work on-site during open hours (Tuesday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM).
Position Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. (e.g., bankers’ boxes).
- Strong handwriting skills for labeling.
- Proficiency in reading cursive handwriting.

This is a non-merit internship position. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprises.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants for positions in this class must be currently enrolled students in a degree program at an accredited educational institution, as determined by the Iowa Department of Administrative Services – Human Resources Enterprise.
