Museum Education & Access Internship
The Pentacrest Museums' Education & Engagement department is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a motivated student passionate about supporting diverse audiences, particularly neuro-diverse learners. This role will focus on enhancing access and accessibility for visitors engaging with the museum's exhibits, programs, and events.
Key Projects:
Museum Social Narrative Development
- Assist in completing a user-friendly educational guides tailored for neuro-diverse audiences for the Museum of Natural History and the Old Capitol Museum
- Research existing resources from other museums and institutions to enhance museum visit experiences for neurodiverse individuals.
- Collaborate closely with relevant museum departments and campus partners to review, test, and approve written and visual content.
TREKSack Program Assistance (in collaboration with Education Assistant)
- Support the preparation of TREK Sack backpack in-gallery museum activity kits for the pilot testing period with audiences.
- Work closely with the Museum Education team to conduct user evaluation and testing capturing user data for the TREKSack program observing and interviewing audiences use of backpacks.
- Support the development and ideation of additional TREKSack backpack themes for exploring subjects in Natural History for children and their guardians ages 3-11.
- Inventory and determine replacement needs for backpack materials and activities.
75 hours of work per semester hour of credit: 1 s.h. = 5 hours/week, 2 s.h.=10 hours/week, 3 s.h.=15 hours/week

The University of Iowa Museum Studies Certificate Program requires
3 s.h. of CCP:1201 Internship OR 2 s.h. of CCP:1201 + 1 s.h. or MUSM:3091
