Multimedia Marketing Assistant

The College of Engineering Marketing and Communications team seeks a reliable, creative, and independent University of Iowa student to do social media coordination and digital content creation. 

Responsibilities

This position will include creating content for and potentially managing some or all of the College of Engineering’s social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, X, and/or LinkedIn. Tasks may include planning posts using an editorial calendar, drafting written content, the production of videos and reels, graphic design, photography, monitoring comments, and tracking engagement metrics.

If able, this position may also produce or assist in the filming and production of videos to support the college’s mission. Video topics may include student events and accomplishments, departmental offerings, faculty and staff research activities, student recruitment, or video messaging from the dean’s office. See the college’s YouTube channel for examples of past videos; creativity and new ideas encouraged.

Desired skills and experience

  • Experience in social media management and/or social media content creation in a marketing context (for a professional, non-profit, or student organization)
  • Ability to come up with creative, fresh ways to produce and present content to drive engagement
  • Ability to shoot professional quality video, including b-roll and interviews
  • Video editing skills: Adobe Premiere Pro preferred or other similar video editing program
  • Ability to follow university brand and graphic standards
  • Basic graphic design skills to create social media graphics
  • Ability to take feedback constructively and work collaboratively with others
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Clear communication with supervisor and responsive to email

Work expectations

This can be a combination of in-person and remote work, or entirely in-person at the Seamans Center. Working hours over the summer 2024 would be great, but not required for the ideal candidate. Expected 5-10 hours per week during the semester, but may work up to 20 hours per week.

A Canon EOS 80D camera is available to use, or a personal camera or cell phone may be used. Other available equipment includes mics, tripod, monopod, gimbals.

  • Work samples: at least two samples of social media posts you’ve developed and, preferably, at least one video you’ve created and one graphic design sample
