Safety Intern

The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking a dedicated Safety Intern to join our team and gain hands-on experience in promoting workplace safety. As a Safety Intern, you will work closely with our safety team to support various initiatives aimed at ensuring the well-being of our city employees. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to learn about safety regulations, hazard identifications, risk assessment, and emergency response protocols.

About this Opportunity    

Assist the Safety Department with various projects to promote and support all City employees. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating engaging training presentations, coordinating site visits and training with departments, and data collection and management.  

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Updates and edits forms using Adobe;
  • With guidance, creates training curriculums on various topics related to employee safety and health;
  • Maintains accurate daily records of inspection observations, communications, and test results;
  • Update and manage the Safety website to ensure all programs and information is provided and accessible to all City employees;
  • Performs clerical duties including file management, scanning, and copying.
  • Create content for Safety Communication Monitors that are dispersed throughout the City;
  • Schedule, coordinate and assign applicable training with department supervisors;
  • Assists with completing Job Hazard Analysis;
  • Responds to Safety Requests in coordination with Safety team members;
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices;
  • Attends work regularly and on time;
  • Supports continuous process improvement initiatives;
  • Performs related work as required

 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

  • High school diploma or GED required;
  • 1 year of study towards a degree program within the last school year;
  • Mid-level computer skills in Microsoft computer applications including PowerPoint, Excel and Forms.   

 

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

 

Work Schedule

  • Flexible schedule; Primary hours worked within 7:00am to 4:30pm
