Up to 10 hours per week from May 15, 2024 – August 15, 2024
Total estimated project time: 60 – 80 hours
Wage: $15.00 per hour
Job summary:
Under immediate direction, researches opportunities and options for the City of Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center’s recycling programs and transportation of commodities. Research will include telephone calls, internet searches and potential in-person interviews with staff from peer communities’ programs and commercial programs and other industry professionals. Assesses logistics based on collected material and analyzes transportation options based on local options, and environmental and financial costs. Must be able to conduct independent research via telephone calls, internet searches and in-person conversations. Must be able to analyze logistics options and clearly convey research summary and details via a final report. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
Post-high school training in or enrollment in an environmental sciences program preferred. General understanding of the waste and recycling industry, general environmental issues and general financial concepts required. Must have basic computer skills. Requires ability to work independently and follow through on projects and tasks assigned. Strong organizational skills are required. Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age.
